SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

When you’re watching a movie, which would you rather see — the main character forgiving the bad guy…or getting revenge? A new Ohio State University study suggests that while audiences enjoy revenge the most, they VALUE forgiveness. Researchers had 184 students read 15 short story scenarios in which a villain was forgiven, fairly punished, or excessively punished. Participants consistently preferred the “fair punishment” endings…but said the over-punished versions were the most fun. Forgiving endings were rated the least enjoyable, but also the most meaningful. Students also made faster decisions when a story delivered the punishment they expected. Lead author Matthew Grizzard says people have instinctive ideas about justice, so vengeance feels satisfying, while forgiveness takes more reflection…but ultimately carries the deepest emotional weight.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

“Home Alone” actor Daniel Stern says that, despite the film’s continued popularity, he won’t be attending any of its 35th anniversary events. In an interview, Stern, who played one-half of the “Wet Bandits” in the film, said he’s more of a homebody these days. The 68-year-old left the Hollywood life behind many years ago, moving to a California farm, where he and his wife now tend to cattle and citrus trees — and he works as a sculptor.

The long-awaited third season of “Euphoria” is coming. HBO has revealed an April 2026 premiere date for the return of the youth hit, which wrapped production last month. This comes more than 4 years after Season 2 finished on the network in February 2022. The 8-part new season will star Zendaya, who reprises her Emmy-winning role of ‘Rue Bennett’, along with Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi, who return as series regulars, alongside Hunter Schafer, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie and Maude Apatow, with Colman Domingo back as a guest star.

Mila Kunis has taken on many different roles during her career, but the one she does off-screen might surprise fans the most. When asked by The Wall Street Journal about any hobbies she enjoys, the “That ‘70s Show” star revealed a rather unusual pastime. Quote: “I don’t know if this is a hobby, but… I’m the head of the homeowners association in our neighborhood.” What does that involve? “If you have a complaint about someone’s trash or if you have a noise complaint, you complain to me.”

Elf” ranks as one of the all-time favorite Christmas movies. And one lucky fan walked away with ‘Buddy’s’ screen-matched elf costume…for a whopping $316,000. Propstore held its London Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction over the weekend, and a total of 425 rare and significant film and TV items were offered. The top performer was ‘Boba Fett’s’ hero screen-, photo- and serial number-matched EE-3 carbine blaster from “The Empire Strikes Back”. It went for $607,000.

DID YA KNOW!?

Did You Know... It Rains Diamonds on Jupiter and Saturn? Both Jupiter and Saturn have such extreme atmospheric pressure that scientists believe it could cause carbon to crystallize into diamonds. During storms on these planets, methane gas could form into diamond rain, making them incredibly unique and sparkling worlds.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

The US post office is saying December 17th is the last day to get your packages in the mail.

Pantene has revealed its choice for 2026 color of the year…if it can be called a color at all. “Cloud Dancer” is a bland off-white shade that the company says represents “rest” and a move away from the “relentless demands” of society. A press release says Cloud Dancer serves as a symbol of calm in a hectic society that’s rediscovering the worth of “measured consideration and quiet reflection,” where “true strength lies not just in doing, but also in being.”

It’s true: Macaulay Culkin recently reignited the great “Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?” debate – then got booed for saying “no”. But a new survey suggests the UK agrees with him. In a poll of 2,000 people by the British Board of Film Classification, 44% said Die Hard ISN’T a Christmas film, while 38% insisted it is. 5% even chose Die Hard as their favorite holiday film. The remaining 17% were undecided. “Home Alone” was named the favorite festive movie, followed by “Love Actually”, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, and “Elf”.

WEIRD NEWS

A restaurant in South Korea is hearing about it online for refusing to serve solo diners. The eatery, in Yeosu City, posted a sign bluntly stating, “We don’t sell loneliness.” The sign also offers these handy alternatives for those eating alone: pay for 2 servings, eat 2 servings, call a friend…or return with a spouse. The move clashes with the growing “honbap” trend, where solo dining is increasingly popular, especially as 29% of South Korean households now consist of one person. Social media users criticized the policy as outdated and dismissive, though some defended the owner’s right to make business decisions.
