The holidays often spark a surge in volunteering, but experts say giving back matters year-round. Psychologists note that gratitude and generosity reinforce each other, a cycle seen across cultures in traditions like Divali, Ramadan and Christmas. Humans evolved as “super cooperators,” researchers say, and volunteering taps into that instinct. Helping others during the holidays — and any other time — can also boost mood, purpose and social connection. Even simple acts, like sending holiday cards or reaching out to old friends, strengthen bonds and revive meaningful ties.

Charlie Sheen may be back in court for another legal showdown with his ex-wife, following the release of his memoir and Netflix documentary. The infamous actor has been married 3 times, with his most famous partners being Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller. Mueller has been butting heads with her former husband for years over child support, and she recently reignited the fight, accusing Sheen of owing over $15 million. The former couple tied the knot in 2008 and welcomed twin sons in 2009, a year before he pulled the plug on their marriage.
After 15 years, Joe Jonas hasn’t lost his sense of humor when it comes to portraying ‘Shane Gray’ in “Camp Rock 3”. While plenty of millennials were over the moon about Friday’s teaser for the follow-up released by Disney+ and Disney Channel, the Jonas Brother had a playful response for one critic of the upcoming movie musical, set to premiere next summer. The critic asked on X: “Are the Jonas Brothers in serious debt or something?” That promoted Joe to respond by referencing a line from the teaser: “God forbid Connect 3 go back to where Connect 3 connected.” Camp Rock 3 sees Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas reprising their roles as ‘Connect 3’ (aka the Gray Brothers) as they return to camp to discover a new generation of young talents. In honor of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” turning 25, all 3 extended edition films in Peter Jackson’s trilogy are returning to theaters next year. The films will screen in D-BOX presentation from Jan. 16-19, and in standard formats from Jan. 23-25. In addition, limited-edition “Lord of the Rings”- themed concession items will be available at select theaters. AMC moviegoers can look out for limited-edition popcorn buckets featuring maps of Middle Earth, while Regal and local cinema patrons can get buckets with a “One Ring” design.
Cher is ready to walk down the aisle again. Nearly 50 years after the end of her second marriage, she is reportedly set to tie the knot with her boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards, ahead of her 80th birthday in May. The Mirror quotes an insider as saying she “doesn’t give a hoot about their [40-year] age difference.” Prior to her relationship with Edwards, Cher was married to Sonny Bono from 1964-75, and Gregg Allman from 1975-79. She has also famously dated Val Kilmer, Gene Simmons and Tom Cruise.

OF THE DAY
It won’t be long until, just like everywhere you look online, you’ll be seeing ads when using ChatGPT. Engineer Tibor Blaho posted his discovery of code from the latest Android beta showing references to an “ads feature,” including “search ads” and an “ads carousel.” If accurate, the free version of ChatGPT would join other search-based tools that rely on advertising, a shift from OpenAI’s current strategy of earning revenue through subscriptions and API use. The move isn’t shocking: OpenAI remains unprofitable, with reports suggesting it may not break even until 2030, and it needs massive additional funding to sustain growth. CEO Sam Altman has previously hinted that ads aren’t off the table…and it must be tempting, given ChatGPT’s enormous weekly user base.
Smartphones may get even more expensive next year – and not because of new, fancier cameras or giant screens. You may pay more for your upgrade in 2026 thanks to a basic part: memory. Demand for memory chips is soaring as tech giants pour their resources into AI data centers, leaving fewer supplies for consumer gadgets like phones, tablets, and smartwatches. Analysts say what we pay for memory in our devices could jump up to 50% by some time early next year, sharply increasing production costs. Word is that some budget phones may have their releases delayed altogether. And some manufacturers, like Micron, are even exiting the consumer memory market to focus on AI. Experts expect the pressure to ease later in 2026.

WEIRD NEWS
The man known as David “Record Breaker” Rush reclaimed one of his quirkiest Guinness World Records by completing a half marathon while wearing 137 T-shirts…about 48 pounds of fabric. Rush first set the record in 2019 with 111 shirts, but later lost it to someone who ran a marathon in 127. Determined to win it back, he trained by running in heavy clothing and weighted packs. His first comeback attempt at the Famous Idaho Potato Half Marathon ended early when the shirts cut off circulation in his neck. This year, he returned to the same race and successfully finished, regaining the title after displaying a ton of persistence…and almost that much cotton.
